I got the train after the one I had originally intended and got to work at about 9.45am. Gonna have to pull my socks up and start getting in by 9.30 at the latest, if only so I can eat my toast without feeling like everyone is watching me and thinking I should really be getting on with my work instead of stuffing my face.
I'm slowly getting into the swing of things, but by the same token am starting to feel more and more like a document-producing machine. My days currently consist of me fulfilling paper, email and in-person requests for various documents, churning them out to order, all of which have to be in a standard format, most of which are automated but often need amending to the individual circumstances. On one hand, I like that I have set goals to make it feel like I am vaguely achieving something. I can try to get through every email request we receive that day, or make sure my desk is clear of the paper requests by home time. But on the other hand, I feel like I am barely using my brain. There is no room for creativity, everything is prescribed, everything seems to have a set template, even the notification emails we send when the documents are ready. I don't even have any time to draft a quick blog post or reply to an email from Lolly by way of a creative outlet to break up the repetition. I'm sure that things will get more interesting and Flame Grilled has told me he will be going through some more interesting stuff with me soon. But at the moment, quite how I am managing to earn more than I used to for doing such mind-numbing work is a mystery. I still miss my old team, our banter and Miss T's regular gems of wisdom and unintentional comedy. Everyone on the team is lovely, but occasionally it feels a bit cliquey and I'm not quite sure where I fit in. Stroppy Pants (SP) is lovely and unintentionally amusing due to her self-confessed stroppyness, but everyone seems to take their work quite seriously. Eek.
The day flew by, the afternoon helped along by a quick trip to the shop for a choc break at Skins' suggestion. I wanted to clear my out tray, so stayed at work till I had. It was 6.15pm. I decided to make a detour on the way home to stop by my tanning place, since my skin has been in shocking condition lately, in part due to this horrible winter weather. Then I stopped by the supermarket to get a few bits - bread, bathroom cleaner, cheese spread, marshmallows, cleaning wipes, tomatoes...you know, the essentials.
Is it only Monday?
