I got an email at work the other day, which started with the salutation:
"Greetings and well wishes in your quest to supporting the world."
Why thank you, you lofty herald of praise. OK, so the email was sent to several people; the sender was trying to get funding so was probably being extra nice and it was technically sent to my old supervisor, whose emails are now forwarded to my address, but I will take that greeting as directed specifically at me, lol. I hadn't really much considered my life of administration to be a "quest," much less one that is "supporting the world." But I think it's quite a nice way to see life.
What I did I do today to help "support the world?" I know it sounds cheesy, but if everyone tried to think this way now and then, instead of the selfish, uncharitable attitude that so many seem to have nowadays, maybe we'd get somewhere. Somewhere nicer, safer, more pleasant. It wouldn't have to be much, just something that makes your environment (physical, emotional, etc.) that little bit better. A small act like taking your litter with you, or using a bin (yes! A bin!) instead of throwing it in the street; letting someone on the bus ahead of you instead of barging past them in a bid to get on first; being patient when someone at work is having a bad day; cutting someone some slack instead of writing them off.
It's not that difficult. Treat others as you'd like them to treat you. None of us exists completely independently of anyone else. We still haven't learnt, after thousands of years, but you have to start somewhere, right? Just a thought.
Anyway, must dash. I have a quest to be getting on with...
